About Kashechewan First Nation

Located in Northern Ontario, Kashechewan First Nation is a remote community situated along the Albany River near the western shores of James Bay, approximately 280 kilometres north of Timmins.

With a population of roughly 2,000 residents, Kashechewan is a Cree community and a member of the Mushkegowuk Council, which represents several Cree First Nations along the James Bay and Hudson Bay coasts. The name “Kashechewan” is often translated as “where the river flows fast,” reflecting the strong currents of the nearby Albany River.

Like many northern communities, year-round access depends heavily on reliable air service, with seasonal winter road access supplementing connectivity during colder months.

Kashechewan has been strategic partners with North Star Air since 2018.
