About Kasabonika First Nation
Located in Northwestern Ontario, Kasabonika Lake First Nation is a remote, fly-in community situated along the Asheweig River system near Kasabonika Lake, approximately 450 kilometres north of Sioux Lookout and about 600 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay.
With a population of roughly 1,000 residents, Kasabonika Lake is part of the Shibogama First Nations Council, a regional organization representing several Oji-Cree communities across Northwestern Ontario. The community has a strong cultural identity rooted in the Oji-Cree language and traditions, with deep connections to the surrounding land and waterways.
Like many northern communities, year-round access depends heavily on reliable air service, with seasonal winter road access supplementing connectivity during colder months.
