Located in Northern Ontario, Fort Albany First Nation is a remote community situated along the Albany River near the western shores of James Bay, approximately 280 kilometres north of Timmins.
With a population of roughly 900 residents, Fort Albany is a Cree community and a member of the Mushkegowuk Council, which represents several Cree First Nations along the James Bay and Hudson Bay coasts. Established in the 17th century as a trading post by the Hudson's Bay Company, Fort Albany has a long and significant history in Northern Ontario.
