Located in Northwestern Ontario, Eabametoong First Nation—also known as Fort Hope—is a remote, fly-in community situated along the Eabamet Lake system, approximately 360 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay.
With a population of roughly 1,200 residents, Eabametoong is part of the Matawa Tribal Council and has a strong cultural identity rooted in the Ojibway language and traditions. The community name “Eabametoong” is often interpreted as “the reversing of the water,” referencing the unique flow patterns of the surrounding lakes and rivers.
