With a population of roughly 2,800 residents, Arviat is one of the largest communities in Nunavut. It is predominantly Inuit, with a strong cultural identity rooted in Inuit traditions, language, and connection to the land and sea. The name “Arviat” means “place of the bowhead whale,” reflecting the community's deep ties to marine life and traditional hunting practices.
